Distrikt 2430 | Temperature Management System for the Newborn Babies
Marsa Gynecology & Obstetrics Hospital in Adana – Turkey serves a high volume of patients including Syrian immigrants who live in Adana. Because of the low social and economic profile of the patients premature deliveries happen often. Neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is a type of brain damage. It’s caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain before or shortly after birth. Many things can lead to neonatal HIE, such as problems during labor and delivery. Without therapeutic hypothermia (TH), the risk of death or severe handicap in survivors of moderate or severe HIE is approximately 25 and 75% respectively. Current evidence shows that therapeutic hypothermia (33-34oC) with intracorporeal monitoring started within 6 hours after birth improves neurological outcome at 18 months and at 6 years of age, reducing mortality from 25% to 9% and disability from 20% to 16% and is now recommended as the standard of care.
Considering all these factors, providing a temperature management system to this hospital will be crucial.
The budget will be approximately USD35000. An international partner (Rotary Club) and DDF contribution is needed.
